Russian Epic Metallers Scald return with a new EP!
Relics marks the return of Russian epic doom metal pioneers Scald with a powerful new EP that breathes fresh life into long-lost compositions from the band's history. Introducing new vocalist Hrafn, renowned for his work with Vendel, the release opens a new chapter while honoring the enduring legacy of original singer Agyl. Combining majestic melodies, epic doom atmospheres, and progressive influences, the EP revisits material written in the years following the landmark album Will Of The Gods Is Great Power, presenting these long-requested songs in definitive studio recordings for the very first time.
Three of the featured compositions—'Master of Tundra,' 'Ravens,' and 'Flame'—were written between 1996 and 1997 as the band began exploring broader musical influences while preserving Scald's signature epic sound. Inspired by artists including Mari Boine, Fates Warning, Dream Theater, and Sanctuary, the songs expand upon traditional epic doom with richer arrangements and a wider emotional palette. The EP also includes two versions of 'Falcon,' a song originally written by Agyl for his pre-Scald band Ross in the early 1990s, presented in both English and its original Russian-language form as a tribute to his memory.
Released by Cruz Del Sur Music, Relics delivers an important chapter in Scald's history, unearthing treasured material that fans had awaited for decades while celebrating the band's enduring musical vision beyond politics and across generations.
