Mômo presents a collection of Adam de la Cour's most significant solo keyboard-based concert works, spanning compositions written between 2007 and 2026. Drawing inspiration as much from psychotronic cinema, rubber-mask practical effects, vaudeville, genre conventions, and satire as from contemporary classical music, de la Cour has developed a distinctive compositional language defined by abrupt tonal shifts, grotesque exaggeration, dark humor, and theatrical expression. Rather than adhering to conventional concert traditions, these works embrace eccentricity, creating vivid musical narratives that are technically demanding while remaining unmistakably playful and imaginative.
At the center of the recording is pianist Mark Knoop, one of de la Cour's closest artistic collaborators, whose extraordinary technique allows him not only to master the intricate complexities of these compositions but also to embody their skewed personalities and unconventional wit. The collection moves fluidly between virtuosic solo piano works, electronically expanded textures, and the whimsical Five Nursery Rhyme Miniatures, each revealing a different facet of the composer's highly individual musical voice.
The album concludes with L'Exorcisme du Mômo, featuring the incomparable Carl Rosman, whose exceptional clarinet artistry and remarkable vocal control—including his ability to produce powerful, Artaud-inspired screams—make him uniquely suited to the work's theatrical and expressive demands.
